Bury St Edmunds death – man arrested on suspicion of murder

Police in Bury St Edmunds seem to be progressing well with their inquires into the death of a 66-year-old man who was found stabbed to death above jewellery shop Collis and Sons on Friday January 13.
Yesterday afternoon Metropolitan Police arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murder. The man was arrested in Haringay but is now being interviewed by officers at the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.
As you can read here, the discovery of the 66-year-old man was made on the morning of Friday January 13, the news has shocked Bury St Edmunds and has caused concern in the town over the weekend.
A post mortem, carried out at West Suffolk Hospital, revealed that the man died from stab wounds.
Yesterday Detective Chief Inspector Neil Luckett, who is leading the investigation, said; "He was a vulnerable man and the motive appears to have been a burglary that then involved an assault on him and the use of a weapon."
Despite making the arrest the police are continuing to appeal for information about the crime. Anybody who witnessed anything suspicious is being asked to call the Major Investigation Team at Suffolk Constabulary on 101. Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers by phoning 0800 555 111.

UPDATE: Kamil Kita, 20, of no fixed abode was today charged with the murder of Peter Avis. He will appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich tomorrow.
