Speaking about his cycling challenge Mark said: "I first met Jan when I was 17 and in 33 years never heard her complain or say a bad word about anyone and she always had a smile on her face.
"Jan received fantastic care from all the staff at the Woolverstone Wing of the Ipswich Hospital and I know she would have loved to raise some money to help them in their refurbishment programme to help their present and future patients."
Today (September 5) Mark and two friends boarded a flight to America and are raring to get started on their mammoth cycle ride across the USA.
The friends will start off in Los Angeles and will cycle through hot temperatures and along bumpy roads to arrive in their final destination of Chesapeake Bay. In total they have only 39 possible cycling days.
The Woolverstone Wish charity is aiming to raise £800,000 so it can refurbish the chemotherapy day unit (Woolverstone Wing) at Ipswich Hospital. If you wish to support this charity and sponsor Mark please visit his Just Giving page by clicking here.
