Bury St Edmunds' newest sports team will be the fledgling American football outfit Bury Brewers.

Club founder Chris Wallis, who has previously launched Cambridge County Cats and Bedfordshire Blue Raiders, confirmed that the new side will be called The Brewers and will also play in gold, white and dark green.

Chris told Bury St Edmunds People: "I have decided to go with the Bury Brewers as the team name. It was the most favoured name from the feedback I've had and, for a number of other reasons, I think it's the most appropriate.

"The one drawback is that 'Brewers' doesn't immediately lend itself to a team logo, so if anyone has any ideas for a logo, or any design skills or experience, please contact me.

"I have also had to confirm our team colours with the BAFANL. They will be gold helmets with a white face cage, gold shirts with white and dark green numbers/trim and white socks."

Chosing the name, colours and logo is the easy part, the difficulty will come in funding the team as Chris explained.

"I calculate that over the next 18 to 24 months we will need to raise between £17,000 and £20,000 to set up the team and compete in the first season, hopefully around half of that will come from Sport England, but the rest will come from fundraising and sponsorship."

A team website will be set up soon, but in the mean time you can follow the Bury Brewers on Twitter @BuryBrewers or email Chris Wallis by clicking here if you can help in any way.

Great project for the whole of Bury to get excited about for sure - any idea when we can expect them to start playing games?
