Christmas may be just ten days away but the real party night of the year is New Year's Eve. As always there's loads going on in Bury St Edmunds if you don't just want to sit in at home and scoff chocolates and watch Jools Holland.

Here are some ideas:

We'll start big with Ravenwood Hall's New Year's Eve ball which is held in their Edwardian Pavilion and it's a fabulous foody feast featuring canapes and champagne, pigeon, scallops, sirloin of beef, chocolate and a cheese course.

Tables of ten are available and smaller parties can sit together. Prices start from £86 per person. For more details visit rel="nofollow">www.ravenwoodhall.co.uk

If you want to get a little bit continental on New Year's Eve, then head to La Tasca on Abbeygate Street. Celebrate New Years Eve in style at La Tasca and add a Spanish twist to the party!

Start off the night with our signature New Year's Eve platter, followed by a selection of five tapas dishes (enough to share), paella valenciana to share and finish with our delicious churros to share.

After that you can take part in a traditional Spanish ritual on New Year's eve, to eat twelve grapes at midnight! The tradition is meant to secure twelve happy months in the coming year.

All that is just £19.95 per person. For more information see rel="nofollow">www.latasca.co.uk

Not quite seeing in the New Year, but if you want a fun thing to do before tipping loads of alcohol down your throat.  Following the success of last year's live transmission, the Berlin Philharmonic's New Year's Eve Gala Concert will make a return to the Bury St Edmunds Picturehouse. The Berliner Philharmoniker's musical director Sir Simon Rattle will welcome the New Year together with multi-ward-winning Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin, whose "combination of technical mastery with impeccable stylistic assurance" (George Hall, the Guardian) is set to offer an unforgettable experience.

The film starts at 5.30pm, for more information see: rel="nofollow">www.picturehouses.co.uk

The Rose & Crown in Stanton is holding a Murder Mystery Movies Stars and Murder night. It costs £40 per person and there's a glass of fizz on arrival and a hot buffet served from 8.30pm. The disco kicks in at 10pm and runs until late

Back in Bury at the popular Fox Inn there's a five course dinner and live entertainment New Year's Eve party featuring music from soul/funk band Capricorn who play mostly music from the 1970s. The Fox is open until 1am and it costs £65 per person - but you'll need to book early as the whole night is limited to 65 places - there's a £15 non refundable deposit per person. Right, let's throw in something for anyone who wants to party hard. LP have had a great year in Bury St Edmunds and you can celebrate the last night with their New Year's Eve Animal Party. You can buy a Silver Ticket for entrance to the club and downstairs after midnight - you'll get a free drink on arrival. Doors open at 10pm and tickets are £15. You can upgrade to a Gold Ticket which for another £10 gets you access to the food buffet, champagne on arrival, a magician, vodka luge and chocolate fountain plus the use of all floors all night long.
