A car has been damaged after missiles were thrown from a bridge onto the A14 between Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.

The missiles were thrown onto the carriageway near the Cambridgeshire border just after 4.30pm on Tuesday, damaging a BMW.

The occupants of the car reported their windscreen being smashed and the bonnet and roof dented near the junction with the A142 at around 4.30pm. Nobody was hurt.

A Suffolk police spokesman said: "We had some objects thrown from an overbridge on the A14 reported to us just after 5pm.

"The driver didn't stop and made their way home before calling us so we are currently establishing exactly where it occurred."

Officers searched the three-lane stretch of the A14/A11 to no avail. They want to speak to anyone who saw anything.

It's the fourth incident in recent weeks in which objects have been thrown off bridges in Suffolk and Essex. Anyone with any info is asked to call Suffolk police on the non-emergency number 101.
