Windy weather has continued around Bury St Edmunds again today with rail services between Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich disrupted early this morning after a train struck a tree that had fallen on to the track.

The windscreen of the train was damaged when the 7:45am service from Peterborough to Ipswich hit the tree at 9.30am at Elmswell.

No-one was injured in the incident and later a replacement bus service was put in place while the track was cleared.

Elsewhere across town there were plenty of tree branches in the roads but no reports of structual damage.

Strong north easterly winds are set to continue for the rest of the week with speeds of 25mph daily between now and Sunday forecast.
