Polling stations are open in Bury St Edmunds for the local elections and the referendum on switching to the Alternative Vote (AV).

It’s the first UK wide referendum since 1975.

It is widely expected that the nation will vote against the Alternative Vote, which would see the first past the post system replaced with a system of proportional representation.

Bookie Victor Chandler goes 1/100 against AV happening, while it’s 14/1 that it does come in. So if you believe the bookies, it’s not going to happen.

With this in mind, are you voting today? We’ll have all the important results tomorrow on this site so stay tuned!
