Bury St Edmunds store tells handbag thief: You were caught on CCTV

Crime in the centre of Bury St Edmunds is thankfully rare, but one town centre store has defiantly told a crook that they've been caught on candid camera.

Caught on camera: The handbag thief struck at Ruby & Me in Bury St Edmunds earlier this month.
Ladies designer fashion store Ruby & Me in The Traverse, posted a message in its shop window this week telling a thief that they’ve been caught stealing.
The note in the shop window, addressed to the thief said that CCTV footage had been recorded of them stealing a handbag from inside the store on Saturday, January 15.
The shop says the footage will be passed to the police.
Anyone with any information on the handbag theft should call Suffolk Police on 01473 613500
What do you think of this? Would you like to see pictures of people caught stealing posted up in shops?

Good on the shop for getting the theft on CCTV. Bit unusual to advertise the fact in the window. I suppose it is as Jaffa Cake says, to warn others they may be caught.

ReportWhen I worked in a shop I was told that staff are not allowed to approach thieves or stop them. This is so stupid to me.
This is probably the shops way of voicing their anger and warning others. Not sure it does much good though. Creates a negative atmosphere to me.

ReportHow bizzare? Why would you bother posting a note in the window?.. What do they hope to achieve? Its not like they will come forward... or is it to warn other potential thieves? Either way rather odd...
