Wasn't sure whether to post this on here or your Newmarket site but finally opted for this one. Was travelling from my home in Cambridge yesterday for a meeting Ipswich. Noticed a handful of signs on the A14 near both Newmarket and Bury that are currently not in use - they look quite new. Anyone know what they are for? And surely the money could have been spent on something more worthwhile? After all they don't work! Typical!

They were part of the multi-million pound revamp of the A14 which took has taken place over the last couple of years. When they're working they will give imporant travel information such as road closures, warning of accidents, bad weather and warnings to lorries traveling to Felixstowe when Operation Stack is in operation (when there are high winds and lorries are not allowed to travel down to the docks).
I agree that they look odd not in use and you would think they would be up and running by now wouldn't you?
