Do you agree that Bury St Edmunds train station is the worst in Suffolk?

Kim Hamilton and Nicola Ramsay have safety concerns about Bury St Edmunds train station
As a regular user of the train station in Bury St Edmunds I am always unimpressed with not only its facilities but also the customer service provided by the staff there.
On Friday I paid a visit to the station and found that a lot of my fellow passengers agreed with me.
The first lady I spoke to, who didn't want to be named, has been travelling from Bury St Edmunds to Scotland for twenty-five-years.
She said: "Every time I come back to Bury to see my family I know one thing is for certain, the train station won't have changed."
Another passenger Laura McGilligan travels between Bury and Norwich to get to university. Describing the station as drafty and cold she said: "When you arrive at Bury train station it feels like you have reached the end of the earth".
When I spoke to friends Nicola Ramsay and Kim Hamilton they were waiting for a train to Cambridge. They expressed fears about security at the station. Kimberly said: "The station does not feel secure, often there is no one on the platform".
Nicola added: " Often the station appears to be unmanned, it seems like there is no one watching what going on."
Whilst I was at the station I found that the waiting room was locked eventhough according to the sign on the door it should have been open. Past experiences of the staff working there has been very mixed some are helpful and friendly where as others treat selling you a ticket as a great inconvenience.
I appreciate that Bury St Edmunds train Railway Station is a grade two listed building which makes structural changes difficult but surely some small improvements can be made. People are getting a poor impression of Bury St Edmunds as soon as they arrive.
Have a look at my photo gallery from the station. Suggest any improvements you think could be made.

I think it could do with a coffee shop but there is a huge Tescos a short minute walk across the road.. maybe a little shop in the station could not compete with the supermarket prices?

ReportI take your point about the station, it certainly does leave a lot to be desired. For such a lovely old building, everything about it is a let down, it has no atmosphere and has nothing welcoming about it. Maybe we should start a campaign to give it a makeover!

Reporthi there
agree with your comments , BSE train station is a dispiriting place , especially after dark ... the lighting on the platforms is awful , and makes dark pools which make the station look closed ! The tracks need de weeding , and the whols station is not a good introduction to BSE . We do not have the throughput of train services that would encourage a cafe or shop ; there was a small newsagent on the forecourt a few years ago , but that closed down . The larger building to the left of the station entrance is also empty , which again doesn't help with the feeling of dereliction .

ReportGot to say it's crying out for a coffee shop or somewhere to go while your waiting for a train. I know there's a snack hut over the road in the week, but at night or at the weekend it sometimes feels like you're the only person there. And I once turned up there at 5.30am in the morning and the place was all locked up.

ReportI have to agree about some of the staff being rude. Some are very pleasant but some couldn't care less. What has happened to good customer service!!!!
